1948 - Matrimonial Avenue, Spinster House, Leap Year -
My Dear & Most Respected Sir, I send you this your love to stir,
Tis you I've chosen first of all, On whom to make a Leap Year Call,
So send me back without delay, Your answer either Yes or Nay.
But if your hand does not incline, In wedlock clasp to join with mine,
Then Leap year's Vow you must obey, And to me £10 you must pay,
Besides kind Sir one handsome dress, I'll ask no more and take no less.
Now you may think that this is funny, But I must have a man or money.
So send me back a quick reply, Let me be your wife until I die,
If the writers name you guess, Send this back to her address,
But if for me there is no hope, Send me back six yards of rope.
I remain, With Love and Kisses, The one who wants to be your Mrs.

1958 - 10th/11th August Postmark Versailles from Cyril to 'Mother' Mrs. E.
Walshe, 12 Ravenhill Park, Belfast, N. Ireland, Grande Bretagne - Dear
Mother, I caught the train from Sarigny to Versailles at five minutes to one
and have spent the day here. I am writing this is a cafe on the way back to
the station over a cup of black coffee which is always stimulating &
refreshing. It was hot in the early afternoon, though fortunately with a
slight breeze, so I'm afraid I shirked the visit to the inside of the
palace. However I was there before with Rene Caulson? ten years ago. The
formal gardens are lovely and everywhere there are fine perspectives with
trees and water in the background. Being Sunday it was rather crowded, but
one could generally find some place quiet. Hope you are all well. I am.
Cyril. P.S. I would like to have seen the Trianon buildings which I missed
before, but looked for them in vain. Apparently they are several
kilometres from the rest of the Palace. I am most comfortably lodged in
Savigny. Indeed it is quite a luxury flat with frig, shower, bath & radio.
There are two largish rooms with not an inch of space wasted - rather like
my postcard.

Thinking of you at this time and hoping you are all well. How is Mother
these days, I hope the old pain has eased off and is not causing her too
much trouble. Just a pity that it is so severe at times. Here is a
little momento hope you will like it as it carries with it my very best
wishes for a peaceful Christmas. All my love, From Sarah
