1) The Daily News, The Wonderful Year 1909 - Old Age Pensions, January 1st, 1909, will be ever memorable as the day that witnessed the first payment of the weekly pension granted by the State to the aged poor of the British Isles. The recipients of the weekly pension of five shillings had to show that they were seventy years of age or over; also that they had kept themselves outside the workhouse, and had not saved enough to have an income of £31 10s. per annum. About half-a-million old people of both sexes benefitted by the new enactment, which costs the State £7,000,000 a year. This sum is less in amount than the interest paid on the South African War debt. Many pathetic scenes were witnessed at the post-offices where the pensions were paid to the old people.

1868 Political Election Cartoons? (I'm sure that's not the correct word)
this came with the above photos, cover says College No. 9074  N. Mills  II Yr & the year is hand written at the bottom of each image, sorry quality is not great and a little hard to make out some of the writing, that's why I thumb-nailed them so they could be enlarged to help with the writing.

1) 9 Kelmore Grove, East Dulwich, 16 April 1896 - Mr. W. Kinnen.  Dr. Sir, I was sorry to see you so unwell to-day, particularly as I wished to have a serious conversation with you, as to your position, and the likelihood of your being able to get even say "One quarters" Rent (£13.15.0) and the expenses (£2.11.6) together by Tuesday next, the 21st April, you really must do something to get those amounts, to save removal of your goods, or the expenses of another request. You in my opinion will not be able to get a customer for your business and have it settled by Tuesday.  I will do my best to try and get you a Customer, but must ask you to give me your instructions in writing, before I push the matter. I enclose an Authority for you to sign and when done, send to me, and I will do my best. Yours truly, Thos. A. Preece.  P.S. I think £400 is a little too much to ask seeing there is very little shop ?
2) Auction Mart & Estate Offices, 13 High Holborn, W.C.  19 February 1896  Dear Sir, Your application form received & from what appears thereon, we do not think that we shall be able to entertain your proposal; you might however give us a call when we could go further into the matter.  Yrs. ffy  N.? E. Hollingsworth.   W. Kinnen, Herne Hill
3) Royal School Raphoe, Co. Donegal. Sunday 2nd December 1917.  Dear Granny, Thanks very much for the stamps you sent. Last Friday we were at a town-tea which was in aid of the ? dept. I won a square of honey and half a pound of butter in a bean bag competition, we got three shots a penny. I sold them after for a shilling each.  We had some snow last night, and it is freezing to-night so if there is more snow we will very likely get some sleighing.  It has been very cold for the last week. I have no news. I hope you are all well. With love to yourself, and Aunt E. and Uncle Dawson. From Jack
4) Royal School, Raphoe  2-12-17  Dear Grannie, Thanks very much for the 2/- worth of stamps which you sent me, we got your letter this morning. We went to a town tea on Friday and we had a great time, there was music and singing and Jack won a half pound of butter and a square of honey at the bean bag throwing competition. There were a great many other competitions also such as town guessing and spelling competitions.  The money went the Red Cross of Raphoe for comforts for the soldiers. The cold weather has set in again, we had snow last night and it has been freezing hard for some time. I am learning music and I began three weeks ago, there is not much news to tell for nothing ever happens here. From your loving grandson Wynne
