James Wylie, who for a considerable time was pastor of Donegall Street Congregational Church, Belfast. He left Belfast about 36 years ago and went to a charge in Birmingham. Thirteen years later he went to Worcester, Mass., but in 1914 returned to England as pastor of Lancaster Road Church, Preston. Mr. Wylie subsequently ministered at Seaton, Devonshire; Kirby, Lonsdale; and (from 1929) Insch, Aberdeenshire. He had resigned recently this charge. Mr. Wylie was held in high esteem in Belfast, and there was much regret when he left. He was an able preacher, and he also had great gifts as a lecturer and speaker. He reciprocated the affection Belfast people bore for him, and he made so many friends here that he frequently revisited the city to keep in touch with them.

Two empty petrol tins found in the debris lend colour to the local belief that the act was malicious. But for the timely efforts of railway officials the waggons attached would have been destroyed. 6) Belfast Telegraph, Thursday, February 11, 1932:
a) When Boy Scott Was Killed, Case of a Bangor Motorist, A motor accident on December 14 last, in which a Boy Scout named Gibson Oliver was fatally injured, had a sequel at Bangor Petty Sessions yesterday, Edward Sharpe, Groomsport Road, being charged on the usual four counts in respect of the driving of his car. District-Inspector Nevin prosecuted, and Mr. J. D. Chambers (instructed by Mr. R. S. Neilson) defended. Stanley Wallace, taxi-driver, said he was standing outside the Bangor Railway Station on the night in question when he saw a car skidding past his taxi. He then saw the boy Oliver lying on the road, and assisted in taking him to Bangor Hospital. From where the boy was lying on the road to where the car stopped was about 50 yards. Andrew Boyle said the car passed him in Abbey Street at what he considered too fast a speed. Samuel Luke (12) said he was going home with deceased and another boy from a Scouting meeting. They had just left the footpath and were walking three abreast, Oliver being on the outside, when deceased was lifted from beside witness and carried away on the mudguard of the car. Capt. Harriott, inspector of public vehicles, said the car was in good order. Mr. Chambers said it was a very tragic occurrence, but there was no evidence to show that his client was guilty of any neglect. He had the car under perfect control. The R.M. said it was a case in which it would not be safe to convict. He had every sympathy with the feelings of the driver that he had been the instrument of the tragic affair.  b) Belfast Automatic Traffic Lights.  c) Motor Buses and Speeding, Dunmurry Court Reflections, At Dunmurry Petty Sessions before Mr. George McElroy, R.M. (presiding), Mrs. Beattie, and Messrs. A. H. Anderson and K. M. Moore, District-Inspector Fletcher summoned George Heslin, Havana Street, Belfast, for speeding with a bus;  Owen Murray Dunlange, Keady;  George N. Slipper, King's Road, Knock, Belfast, who was summoned for failing to keep the rear identification plate of his car duly illuminated, was stated by a constable to have been very civil to him;  Hugh Hill, Megaberry, Moira, was fined 20s and 12s extra costs for driving to the public danger at Finaghy.

8) Belfast Telegraph, Thursday, February 11, 1932:
a) Career of Rev. Isaac Nelson, Belfast Ishmaelitish Minister;  b) Bangor and Weekly Court, Bench to Consider the Matter, At Bangor Petty Sessions, Mr. S. C. Clarke, R.M., presiding, Mr. W. I. Mahaffy, solicitor to the Bangor Borough Council, asked the magistrates to take the necessary steps to establish a weekly Court at Bangor from May to November. There were two Courts a month at the present time, one of which was occupied by motoring and other cases requiring the attendance of an R.M., which left only one Court for the ordinary petty sessions business of the third largest town in Ulster. He read a letter from Mr. James Milliken, town clerk, supporting the application. It was decided to convene all the magistrates of Bangor district for the next Court to consider the matter. ~ Wm. McLean, King Street; Paul Fox, Mill Row, and Robert McFarland, Castle Lane, all of Bangor, were prosecuted for using premises for the purposes of betting. Mr. J. M. McKee defended. Defendants were each fined £5 and costs, and summonses against a number of local men were dismissed on the merits. ~ Andrew Campbell (22), of Holborn Avenue, Bangor, was charged with stealing 15s, the property of his employer, Robert McCance, Dufferin Avenue. Mr. Frank McKee defended. The evidence showed that Campbell collected 15s from a customer and kept the money. The amount was subsequently refunded. Accused who had been previously convicted, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. ~ Richard R. McKee was summoned for being under the influence of drink while in charge of a motor-car on January 13. Defendant pleaded guilty, and a fine of £10 and costs was imposed. ~ Herbert McGladdery, Ballygomartin Road, Belfast, was charged with the reckless driving of a motor-car on January 12. Mr. J. McKee, for defendant, submitted that there was no evidence to properly determine blame for the accident. The charge was dismissed on the merits.

Accused, who pleaded guilty, said he was about to return the wheel when the police came to look for it. Defendant was fined 10s, with 18s 8d costs and bound over ~ Patrick Coyle, Crannogue, was fined £10, recommended to be reduced to £2 10s, for carrying a gun without a licence.  k) Comber Church Guild;  L) 37th Troop (Argyle) Boy Scouts;  m) Ulster Girl Guide Notes, Song and Hockey Lectures;  n) Glen Head Collision with German Ship, Claim by Latter's Owners in London Admiralty Division;  o) Law and Striking Tenants, Notices to Quit, Sureties Warned, The "rent strike" in the York Road area of Belfast still continues, but the agents of the property have set the law in motion to enforce their claims. Notices to quit have been served on the tenants who are on strike, and their sureties warned of their failure to pay rent. The claims for possession will come before the next sitting of the Recorder's Court, as the weekly rent is outside the jurisdiction of petty sessions. Summonses claiming the rent already in arrear have also been served, and these will be heard at the local Petty Sessions Court. About 100 tenants are affected, and the cases will, doubtless, attract much public interest;  p) Old-Age Pension Prosecution, At the Belfast Summons Court to-day, before Mr. H. Topping, R.M., an elderly man named William Henry Gillespie was summoned for making, as alleged, false representations for the purpose of continuing an old-age pension. Dr. J. V. S. Mills prosecuted for the Ministry, and Mr. B. Campbell defended. Upon the defendant undertaking to pay back in instalments the amount he had received the case was adjourned.
