Down ~ We're having a lovely holiday and have seen such a lot of interesting places since we landed in bonnie Scotland, and it is beautiful. I wish you could see the heather on the Highlands, its just coming into bloom now and looks a picture. The tent is behaving well, last night we found a camping place at the Sp....al? of Glenshee in the Gramp? Hope every one is well at Killaney, Love to all Harrie?

17th July 1939 Postmark Edinburgh to W. J. Price, Esq., J.P., Killaney Lodge, Boardmills, Lisburn, N. Ireland ~ Edinburgh 17-7-39  Came to Dunoon on Tues. last. Had 3 lovely days and then were shut in by rain for ? days so cam? here. Went to St. Giles' yesterday (Sunday) morning and to St. Georges in the evg. This is the tartan of the Macfarlanes of whom the McCaws were a sept (earlier spelling Macaw). It is also the tartan of the "Stuarts of Buts" - a hard-drinking lot, I've been told. They intermarried with the Macfarlanes. I'm more of a Highlander than I thought. Kind regards, J. M. C.

This is a very social Hotel at present. There is a dance on somewhere about 70 or 80 people. The weather has been very kind to us. We saw this little cottage to-day and such hills I never saw the like. Love to all Auntie

c) 21st August 1936 Postmark Inverness to Mrs. W. J. Price, Killaney Lodge, Boardmills, Lisburn, N. Ireland ~ Have had a lovely trip so far. Came by train on Wed. from Edin. to Ftwilliam, the scenery was gorgeous, then by steamer to Inverness. It was great coming thru up the Caledonian Canal Lock Lochy Oich & Ness. We landed at Ft. Augustus for ½ an hour. Staying one day in Inverness, going on to Skye tomorrow for 3 days then Oban by ? & back to ? now by ? ? the Kyles of Bute. Love Maggie  You would have loved the trip, weather good.

Ireland ~ Thursday.  We came from Edinburgh on Monday to Sillo? on the Solway, stayed there till this morning & now are on our way to Bradford via the Lakes? Here for lunch, where Connie & I stayed 3 years ago. It is a lovely day & the trees are beautiful, all red & gold. Hope to be in Belle Vue about 5 o'clock. Love from E.

R.U.C. Examine Car After 'Hit and Run' - Police in Portadown have questioned a man and examined a car following a report of a hit-and-run accident at Brankin's Hill on the outskirts of Portadown, on Saturday night. A 19-year-old girl, Miss Margaret Elizabeth White, of Taylor Passages, Tullyrone, Dungannon, was wheeling her bicycle out of town when, it is stated, she was struck by a passing motor car. Miss White received head injuries and was taken to Lurgan Hospital. Last night her condition was reported to be satisfactory.

Station on Saturday three Belfast men were charged with breaking and entering the lock-up garage of Frederick Crowe at Lisniskey, Portadown, with intent to steal. They were Richard Fletcher (28), house repairer, 14 Canmore Street; Francis Gavin (29), dealer, 14 Derry Street; Tobias Boswell (33), painter and decorator, 175 Burney Street. The alleged offence took place on February 18. Evidence of arrest was given by Constable Ronald Elwood R.U.C., Portadown, who said that when charged and cautioned Fletcher replied "Guilty"; Gavin "Guilty sir"; and Boswell sail "Guilty." On the application of Head Constable R. Knox all three defendants were remanded to Portadown Petty Sessions on March 1. Mr. Edward McCann, J.P., allowed each defendant personal bail of ten pounds with one surety of ten pounds. - part article: ... He was sentenced for assaulting police in the course of their duty. The jury had failed to agree on a charge of unlawful possession of an anti-tank gun with intent to endanger life.  Cell Empty. Behal's cell was found empty at 7 a.m. A window bar had been cut out. He is Herbert Donnell, of Lislap, Omagh. The accident occurred on the Limavady-Derry road about a mile from Limavady. Donnell was alone at the time, but a passing motorist raised the alarm.
