Is the capital of County Tyrone, a distinction which it has enjoyed since the year 1768; is situated 130 English miles from Dublin; 66 W. from Belfast; 34 S. from Londonderry.  It is a junction station on the Great Northern Railway, and Military Depot for the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (27th Regimental District), and head quarters of the 3rd Special Reserve Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.  In the year 1914 a fine memorial was unveiled by her Grace the Duchess of Abercorn to the memory of the fallen heroes of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in the South African campaign.  The monument, which bears the names of the deceased members of the regiment, occupies a commanding position on the hill in front of the Courthouse in the Main Street.  The shops' half-holiday is on Wednesday.  Population, 4,836
