Foreword :- In August 1917 two Old Elysians were sitting
in a front line trench before Bullecourt reading in one of the Club letters
the names of Old Eylsians who were then known to be serving in the Forces.
Inevitably the days when they were at School together were recalled, times
which while so near in fact, yet already seemed so far away. Little
did one of these Elysians think that in thirty-four years it would be his
destiny to submit to the Old Elysians' Club a second War Roll. He
wishes to thank all who have assisted him in his task and trusts that the
following pages will be a testimony to future generations that those
commemorated therein sought

POSTSCRIPT
In
compiling this record, I have written and received very many letters and in
so doing have been privileged to make friendships not only with Elysians but
also with their kin. I trust in so doing I may have had the good
fortune to assist some of them in times of difficulty.
I wish to thank all who
have passed to me news of Old Boys; without their willing co-operation this
War Roll could not have come into being. In particular I would mention
M. R. Neville and W. E. Usher for their great help in proof reading and
general advice. F. TERENCE MURPHY
