Address and Presentation to
Rev. John Davidson, M.A., D.D., Glennan

Rev. and
Dear Sir, We, the members of the congregation of Glennan, desire to
tender to you our hearty congratulations on recently receiving from the
Presbyterian Theological Faculty, Ireland, the honorary Degree of Doctor
of Divinity. We recognize this as a well-merited tribute to your
attainments as a Theologian, to your success as a minister of the
Gospel, and to your prominent position in the Presbyterian Church.
During a lengthened pastorate you have been a faithful
minister of Christ, instant in season, out of season. Your pulpit
services have always indicated careful preparation, and it has been our
privilege to have presented to us through you the Gospel of Jesus Christ
in all it's fullness and freeness. Your regular visitation of the
Congregation, and particularly of the sick and the sorrowing, has been a
marked feature of your ministry, and in this way you have brought very
generally to them the consolations of the Gospel of Christ. Through your
labours among us we trust many have been brought to the Saviour, and
others built up in our most holy faith.
We might refer to many outward tokens of the success of
your ministry among us, such as the commodious Church in which we
worship, erected during your pastorate, and recently renovated and
beautified, as well as to the School buildings, enlarged and greatly
improved, and the other Church buildings very considerably renovated,
all being practically clear of debt.
You recently passed through a long and serious illness,
in which you had our deepest sympathy and our prayers, and we now record
our thankfulness to God that you are so fully restored to health and
vigour of body, so that, like Moses, your eye is not dim nor your
natural force abated.
We ask your acceptance of this Illuminated Album and
accompanying Gift as a Souvenir of the Honorary Degree having been
conferred on you, and as a slight token of our unabated attachment to
and esteem for you. We desire to associate with you in this expression
of our goodwill and gratitude the name of Mrs. Davidson and also the
names of the Misses Davidson, who have rendered most valuable assistance
in the Choir and in the work of the Sabbath School.
We earnestly hope and pray that you may be long spared
in the enjoyment of your newly acquired honour, to the Service of this
Congregation and of the Church generally, which you both love and adorn.
Signed on behalf of the Congregation, Glennan (name
