Ruabon, N. Wales - Dear Boal, Your letter of 8th ? reached me today. I
enclose the form you filled in, you joined the O.S. on 8th Nov. 1937 so
that I have known you for 4½ years (+ 5 days) you are still in the
O.S.N.I. I hope that you will succeed in your application. All is quiet
here tho' we have plenty of work. 10 of the men are on War Damage
Commission work which leaves the office very bare. Conn & Collins have
been accepted for training for Commissions having passed their Q.V.
O.T.C. Collins goes to the Indian Army. Lyness is getting a Commission
in the T.A. & is being transferred from the R.N.R. very soon for
training. You may meet some of them on your training. Courtney is now a

Boal: (through Commissioner of Valuation): With reference to your
summons for service with H.M. Forces, I have to inform you that during
your absence on service you will be paid the difference between your
civil and service pay. A copy of T.C. No. 13/39 is enclosed together
with a statement reproducing extracts from M.F.C. 13/39 and 15/39 which
modify or supplement for Northern Ireland Civil Servants the general
provisions of that circular. With regard to the forms which are appended
to T.C. 13/39. it will be necessary for you to dispose of A and B as
directed on the Forms. Form C should be completed and returned to this
Ministry at the earliest possible date. I have to request that you
will inform this Division as soon as possible of the rate of service pay
and allowances you receive, and that you will notify any changes in your

The death has taken place in the U.S.A. of the Rev. J. Edgar Park, B.A.,
LL.D., D.D., some time president of Wheaton College, and son of the late
Very Rev. Dr. Wm. Park, of Rosemary Street Church, Belfast. He was
educated at Queen's College, and the Presbyterian College, Belfast, at
Oxford and Edinburgh, Leipzig, Munich and Princeton. Joining the
ministry of the Congregational Church, U.S.A., he was minister of the
Second Church, Newton. He became president of Wheaton College and on
retirement went to live at Cape Cod. During his half-century in U.S.A.
he was widely known as a speaker and preacher as well as author of many
books and articles on religion and educational subjects. His son,
William E. Park, is president of Simmons College and his daughter,
Rosemary Park, is president of Connecticut College.
