1) I want to see the Dear Old Home Again (3) - Long years cannot
soothe my pain; Absence only makes the heart from fonder, Oft-times down the
village lane, In some happy dream I seem to wander; Loving lips are meeting
in a tender kiss, Loving souls with rapture thrill, Eyes are brightly
glowing, and tears of joy are flowing, Then I wake - a soldier still!
2) I told him you were a hopeless flirt. I hope you have fully recovered by
now & will love you & leave you hoping you see again soon, if not in
this world, in the next. Tons of love & all the best to Cassie? & ditto to
you. Your loving brother Jack. P.S. Give me a list of the cards that you
have got.
3) I want to see the dear old home again (1) - Dear home, far across the
sea, Day and night for thee I'm sadly yearning; Loved ones, all in all to
me, Fondly wait the hour of my returning. As I watch the swallows on their
homeward way, Speeding o'er the restless foam, Fain would I be flying, for
O, my heart is sighing, Sighing for the dear old home!
4) I suppose he has left Belfast by now. Did he pass any more remarks about
me. Tell him he can say what he likes as long as I don't hear him. Any more
word from Australia, don't forget & give me the ? if there is. I was giving
Willie the hint in the letter I am sending him.

1) I want to see the dear old home again (2) I want to see the dear old home
again, The cottage in the little winding lane; I can see the roses climbing,
I hear the sweet bells chiming, And I'm longing for the old home again.
2) Remember to Mrs. James so you know. I have a sneaking regard for her, do
you think there is any hopes after the war, if hr bloke shouldn't return. Oh
by the way, don't forget the photos of you & wee John that you promised me,
as I have promised to show it to my chum, who you told me to tell you were
asking for, but at the same...
3) ...I also had a photo from Jimmy? and he enclosed one for Willie. Amy's
youngest brother has been shot through the chest in the Dardanelles & two
more brothers have just gone to...
4) ...the front. So all the available men are now at the front. I have never
felt to well since I have been in the navy until I came round here. We are
having very bad weather now. Best love to all. from Johnny. xxxx

1) Dear Ethel, I have just had a letter from Willie & he sent me
Jimmie address & I have just written to him. I also had a letter from him
this morning, the first I have ever had & then he was wanting to know...
2) ...when I was going to write after me
sending him about 4 or 5 cards. We have had an awful time since we ? come
back, everything is in a filthy state & we are nearly killed with work. We
are expecting to go to sea on Saturday when the other watch comes back. I
hear that we are leaving here, I don't know how true it is...
3) ...All leave is stopped on St. Patrick's Day
as they expect some trouble but I think it is only a fa? I had to wait 3
hours in Portadown when I was coming back but I got back in time. How is it
that Cassie didn't come down to the station, did she forget. How is your
cox'ain? getting on, has he proposed yet, if so don't forget a bit of the
cake.

1) Somewhere (3) If in years to come she should recall me, Would she love me
and still hold me dear? Would she then forget those cruel words spoken, When
my jealous rage caused her to fear? Oft-times I think she knows I'm longing,
Knows that she could ease my aching heart; Would she say "Forgive me, oh, my
darling, Do not grieve, for we shall never part"?
2) Dear Ethel, Hope all at home are quite well, as this leaves me. I had a
letter from W. Cobain & a P.C. from J. Neill. I also had a P.C. from May
Welshman

1) Somewhere (1) Somewhere in the world the moon is shining,
Shining in the fields and golden hills; Somewhere near the shadows slowly
falling, Creeping o'er the silent vales and rills. Oft-times I find my heart
is longing, Just to press her dear sweet lips to mine, Caress her with
burning love and kisses, Yet I wonder will there come a time.
2) Dear Ethel, Hope the letter I sent you was
alright. I must thank you again for thinking of me as we seem to be
forgotten...
3) ...We are having pretty decent weather here
now, also tons of leave. I was up in Cork yesterday & got gloriously
drunk...
4) I hope you & all at home are quite well as
this leaves me. Hope to see you soon. Yours as ever Johnny

1) 6 Mess, H.M.S. Adventure, c/o G.P.O. ? Dear Ethel, I received
your ever welcome letter to-day, glad to know you are free from pain as this
leaves me at present. Glad you liked the deloubrious chocolate & am so sorry
there isn't any more. I shall kneel down & pray that your work gets busy
soon so that I can have a (snot-rag) this is french for handkerchief. I
haven't had the pleasure of hearing from W. J. since I left depot...
2) ...as you remark in your choice language, he
is a sore twister. I am writing him by this mail. I shall mention the fact
that you are pining away. I have had the pleasure of hearing again from Miss
Welshman & I have had the pleasure of answering it. But my dear woman, when
it comes to accusing me - of being a heartless flirt, it is time to take
further steps which I shall at once do. I may warn you that I have
instructed my solicitor to interview you! The bloke who knows you is called
Kelso, he has just...
3) ...been made A.B. & has gone to barracks so
you might see him soon, he only wears H.M.S. in his cap, no ship, the same
as I do. Yes I had a letter from Billy, also from J. Neill before they
shoved off. I hope they will be alright out there, I only wish I were going.
I don't think the war will last long now as we have fairly got them on the
hop. You might tell Cassie I receive the Ulster alright, I forgot to tell
her. I think this is all now but hoping to hear from you soon again. I
remain your loving brother Johnny P.S. Remember me to Mr. Bell

1) My Dear Ethel, Just a card to let you know that I received your letter as
promised for Tuesday. I had just your two cards posted when I received your
letter. I was a bit overanxious to hear from you Ethel, because it has been
very bad weather since I came down here & I was feeling very much
downhearted. I am writing this card at six in the morning down at the shore,
it being a much brighter day. I was much annoyed to hear about you not
getting a bed, as I am sure you had a most fearful time. Are you going to
send Miss Armstrong one of your Photo Ethel, she said to me that night going
back from the boat up to Mary's that you would likely send her one over. I
remain yours as ever Andy
2) My Dear Ethel, Just a card to let you know that my Father has been very
ill this last few weeks, but thank God he is a lot better to-day, hoping
Ethel you will not be angry with me for not writing you sooner, as I was
greatly knocked about over him being so ill. Hoping you received the paper
alright that I sent you. I wish Ethel I had the grip of Harry Latimer now, I
would fairly give him a bit of my mind. Write soon soon again. I remain your
ever True and Faithful Friend. Andrew
3) Dear Ethel, Just a line to ask you if you are worst, as I have received
no word from you lately. I am afraid to write Ethel in case there is
something seriously the matter with you. Something has been telling me all
week Ethel that you has been very ill, but I hope & trust God that this is
not the case. I was allowed out on Sunday Ethel, for the first & I called
down at your home today, they are all keeping well down there Ethel, except
Cassie, she is not too well, suffering from pains in her neck & arms, but I
hope & trust in God Ethel that there is nothing seriously the matter with
you. Write as soon as you can & let me know id able. I hope you will been
able to make this out Ethel. I remain your ever true & faithful friend. Andy

1) Dearest Ethel, Just a few lines to let you know Ethel, that I just
arrived home this morning, as I was working out of town, I was very glad to
find a letter waiting on me from you, so I thought Ethel, it was my best
plan to write you these few lines, knowing that you would think something
had gone wrong unacount? of me not writing. You can send me on a few lines
when you get this. I am mighty glad you are coming home. I remain yours Andy
2) My Dearest Ethel, Arrived here on Satuarday (Saturday) safe and sound,
only to feel your absence greatly. I am greatly knocked about Ethel at not
hearing from you, as I would very much like to know if you had a safe
voyage, as I hope & trust in God you had. I knew you were greatly troubled
when going away. I have a lot of news to tell you & I will write you a long
letter as soon as I go home next week. I think the world of your sister Mary
Ethel, as she is very homely & very wise. Do write soon. I remain your
loving friend. Andy
3) Just a P.C. hoping to find you enjoying the best of health as it leaves
me OK up to the present. This a little reminder in regards to the little
piece of cake you promised me. Give my kindest Regards to your Sister. Yours
sincerely E. L. McM.
4) 200 Hall Street, Stockport, Cheshire - Dear Mr. ?, Just a P.C. hoping it
will find you in the pink. I had a great time coming across, it was a
beautiful moonlight night. We were twelve hours at Sea as the boat anchored
for four hours. My Bertha had given up all hopes of seeing me back in
Stockport. I am only beginning to get over my home-sickness. Hoping all at
home are keeping in the best of health. I remain Yours Sincerely, Ethel L.
