1919 - Townsend Street Presbyterian Church War Memorial
Belfast, April 1919: Dear Friends, In many parts of the British Empire there is to-day a unanimous desire to perpetuate in some permanent form, the memory of those who have given their lives in the cause of freedom. Here in this Church we wish to express our feelings of devotion and pride and sorrow for those of our members who have fallen in the War.  It has been difficult to select the most suitable and becoming form of such a Memorial, but the task has been made easier by the spirit of harmony and unity which has always pervaded this congregation. After much anxious refection, and after giving consideration to the feelings of everyone, it was thought it would be most becoming to associate with the regular service of worship and praise the memory of those whom we still look upon as comrades, and it was decided that the erection of a great Organ in the Church would best meet the wishes of the largest number of the people, and in particular the wishes of the relatives of our fallen soldiers. Wm. Corkey, Minister. R. W. McDowell, Clerk of Session. Hugh Morrison, Secretary of Committee. CLICK image #2 above to read the full letter.
