Beck Collection

1941 still has the pencil tucked into the spine but there was nothing
written in it,
there were a few items tucked inside though, see below
written on the inside cover:- Clare Beck is my name, Ireland is my
nation, Lisburn is my dwelling place, and Heaven my expectation, when I am
dead and in my grave, and all my bones are rotten, this little book will

Lisburn, Co. Antrim - Girl Guides Castle ?, Portrush. Tuesday
Dear Elsie, Well, before I forget, your gloves are quite safe and sound, you
left them lying on the dressing-table so I'll past them on to you. Yes, the
crowd in the house this week are just as good (I think), as those who were
in last week, we had grand fun on the beech last night, playing rounders and
such like things. The weather yesterday was searching, and we just lay out
in the sun all the afternoon, but in the morning Bruce and David asked
Margaret and I to go a cycle run with them, so needless to say we went, I
don't know where we went to but it was quite near Coleraine I think, we had
marvellous fun altogether, and it came to a close all too soon. Guess what!!
(Prepare yourself for a shock) Last night while we were down on the beech
playing at rounders, who should come down for a game but our two friends Mr.
Watson & Mr. Wilkinson. I can tell you, we nearly took a fit, you know their
ever so nice to us now, I think Miss Hannah must have been speaking to them
or something, and one of the directors arrived last night but he's ever so
nice, & he was speaking to Bruce and David last night and he said that he
thought that 11-30 was quite time enought to come in at while youre on
holiday so, if you see, we're won the battle. The weather is lovely to-day
again, but I don't think we're going to do anything, other than laze around.
Quite a crowd are away to Ballycastle for a cycle run, they won't be back
till tea-time as its over forty miles there and back, we didn't have enough
energy or we might have gone with them. To-morrow we are going a bus run to
the Glens of Antrim, so I'm quite looking forward to it. I'll try and get
??????????????? by the next time I write. Jim Greenshields has to give his
testimony to-night at the Brethren open-air meeting at the town hall
to-night, and I think he's a wee bit nervous at the prospect. I hope to
goodness you can manage to read this, because I can hardly read it myself.
Margaret has written to Pearlie, so I'll not bother writing to her till
later. Wishing the two of you were here again. Lots of Love, Kay or Ray?
