3) part article ? Gray, Shore Road, Ballyhalbert, on the death of her
mother, Mrs. McKitterick, Ballybraine. The sad event took place on Monday of
this week. = Death of Mrs. Adair: It is with feelings of deep and
sincere regret that we record the death of Mrs. Annie Francis Adair, wife of
Mr. Wm. Adair, which took place at her residence, 13 Ferndale Terrace, on
Saturday night after a long illness. The deceased, who was in middle life,
had not enjoyed the best of health for some time past, and the news of her
passing was not entirely unexpected. Mrs. Adair, who was well known in the
village and district, was possessed of a pleasant disposition and she
enjoyed the esteem and regard of a wide circle of acquaintances. It is sad
to think that one so young in life should be taken from amongst us, but it
is God's holy will and only He can give. Deep sympathy is extended to
her sorrowing husband and son, mother, sisters and brother in their hour of
trial. The funeral which was largely attended took place on Tuesday 19th to
Glastry Presbyterian Churchyard. Rev. S. Stevenson, B.A., officiated at the
home and at the graveside. Beautiful floral tributes were from her
husband and son Gibson; mother, Gibson, Jeannie and Maureen; Sadie, Jim and
family; Lillie and William, U.S.A.; Elizabeth, Catherine and Madge. The
funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. W. L. Doggart & Son,
Newtownards.

"The old home now is broken, Where we did often roam, For the hands that
rest forever, Were the hands that made that home." Always remembered by her
loving Daughter and Son-in-law, Gladys and Hugh Conway; also Grandson,

memory of our dear mother, Annie, who died 13th February, 1947. "Forever we
remember." Always remembered by all her Family. ~ Johnston,
In loving memory of my dear sister, and our dear aunt Mary, called home, on

Letter to the Editor (incomplete) Old Soldier's Widow's Plight: Sir,
- I am the widow of an ex-Service man who died two years ago. I was advised
by Ministry of Pension, London, to apply to their Welfare Dept., Northern
Ireland, for help in my distress but was refused. I was without a fire most
of the winter and had to surrender a policy for cash to get some sack and
coke nuts or freeze to death. I am unable to work owing to chronic
ill-health and alone in the world. My pension allowance of two pounds per
week is exhausted to the utmost, keeping pace with rising prices. It would
never feed, clothe and warm a single person in this world. It seems a crime
for an ex-Service man to live to a grand old age although he may suffer
years of agonising pain as my late husband did. I wonder how many widows of
Boer War and World War 1 veterans are left stranded as I am.... (back of
