4) Death of Dr. Wilson, Whiteabbey. We deeply regret to have to announce the death yesterday of Dr. David Wilson, of Whiteabbey. Dr. Wilson some time ago had paralytic seizure, but thanks to his robust constitution he made a splendid recovery. Until a week ago he was able to be about in the grounds of his residence, Notting Hill, and on Sunday of last week he attended services twice at Whiteabbey Congregational Church. Dr. Wilson was a native of Ballyhenry, Carnmoney, so that he may be said to have spent his entire life in the neighbourhood where he has now died. He took an active part in local affairs, representing the Whiteabbey electoral division on the Belfast Rural District Council, and for many years he was a member of the Belfast Board of Guardians. At the last election, on account of his health he did not again come forward. Perhaps, however, his chief interest in life, apart from his profession, centred in the Congregational Church of the village where he had made his home. Dr. Wilson was one of the founders of the Congregational Church at Whiteabbey and right up to the close of his life took an active part in the management of its affairs. Indeed one of the last duties he attended to was in connection with the election of a successor to the Rev. H. T. Potten, who, after ministering there for many years, has just accepted a call to Chesterfield. By the poor of the locality, Dr. Wilson will be specially missed. Night and day he was at the beck and call of everyone and the amount of good he accomplished will never be fully realised. No one ever called for him in vain. His practice was an extensive one, reaching far beyond the bounds of his own immediate neighbourhood. Particulars of the funeral arrangements will be found in another column. Reference at Belfast Guardians. At Belfast Board of Guardians to-day Dr. Macintosh feelingly referred to the sad event, and moved that a letter of condolence be sent to Dr. Wilson, jun., and the other relatives. In doing so he said that they all sincerely regretted to learn of their late colleague's death. Dr. Wilson was for a number of years an attractive member of the Board, assiduous in all his duties, and a man who did his level best to try and please his fellow-Guardians and do his duty towards the ratepayers who sent him to the Board. Words failed him to adequately express his feelings at present. He had been intimately associated with Dr. Wilson in another branch, and he could assure the members they had lost a friend, and the residents of Whiteabbey had lost not only a friend but an adviser and well-wisher also. Mr. A. Malcomson, J.P., in seconding, paid a tribute to the deceased's services on the Belfast Rural Council, of which he had been chairman. Dr. Wilson was straight-forward in all his actions, and a valuable member of the Board. The Chairman (Dr. Bryans) endorsed all that had been said about Dr. Wilson. He had known him as a gentleman and a doctor for years, and could assure the members he was just as much thought of by the profession of which he was a member as he was by the members of that Board. He was a true type of doctor, and any time he read Ian MacLaren's description of Dr. William MacLure, Dr. Wilson's name always came before him. The resolution was passed, the members standing.
