COUNTY OF ANTRIM INFIRMARY
This Institution was established at Lisburn, in the year
1767, pursuant to Act of Parliament. Its object is to provide medicines, or
medical and surgical aid, for the poor of the County, both male and female.
Tuesdays and Saturdays are appointed by the Surgeon for giving advice and
medicine to the extern patients. Persons paying twenty guineas become
governors for life, such as pay three guineas annually are governors for the
year. Each governor is entitled to recommend an unlimited number of extern
patients for advice and medicine, and to recommend for interns whenever
there is a vacancy. Recommendations of paupers for advice only are
unrestricted. A Board of Governors meet quarterly to regulate the general
concerns of the Institution, and the internal management of the House is
placed by them under the superintendance of a weekly committee, who makes a
report to the succeeding Board.
