Poems I remember

Home

These are all poems and songs I remember my daddy saying to me when I was a Little Girl

and some more recent favourites

Mimi's Daddy took her walking one fine Summers night
When the silvery moon was shining and the stars were bright
"What's that?" said little Mimi, pointing at the sky
"That's the moon" said Mimi's Daddy, "Isn't it up high!"
"I want that" said little Mimi, "I want it ever so"
"and if I'm going to reach it Daddy, shall I have to grow?"

Progress report 45 years later:-

Mimi has progressed from her childhood days,
Now, she wants the Sun - the Moon - and the Stars.

Shall I tell you my name
It's long but I'll try
Sometimes I forget it
That's when I cry

But I have another
I'll never forget
So simple, so Easy
Just this, Daddy's Pet.

You're the end of the rainbow
My pot of gold
You're Daddy's Little Girl
To have and to hold
You're sugar and spice
and everything nice, cause
You're your Daddy's Little Girl

What!

The Elephant is a pretty bird
It flits from bough to bough
it makes it's nest in a rhubarb tree
and whistles like a cow

Puffin

There Once Was a Puffin

Oh, there once was a Puffin
Just the shape of a muffin,
And he lived on an island
In the bright blue sea!

He ate little fishes,
That were most delicious,
And he had them for supper
And he had them for tea.

But this poor little Puffin,
He couldn't play nothin',
For he hadn't anybody
To play with at all.

So he sat on his island,
And he cried for awhile, and
He felt very lonely,
And he felt very small.

Then along came the fishes,
And they said, "If you wishes,
You can have us for playmates,
Instead of for tea!"

So they now play together,
In all sorts of weather,
And the Puffin eats pancakes,
Like you and like me.
